class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern agriculture faces a range of challenges related to economic conditions, the environment, and social trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have decided to focus on four significant aspects that impact agricultural development. These events not only determine how food is produced but also affect its availability, quality, and durability. They require solutions that can be implemented right now, with selected measures needing to be applied in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"climate_change\"><\/span><strong>Climate Change<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Global warming and greenhouse gas emissions pose a direct and serious threat to global crops. By 2050, the world&#8217;s average temperature is expected to increase by 1.5\u00b0C<sup><a href=\"#1\">1<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to The Copernicus Climate Change Service, June, July, and August of 2023 were the warmest on record globally, with an average temperature of 16.77\u00b0C, 0.66\u00b0C higher than the average. Consequently, overall soil temperature and CO2 levels rise. Climate-induced abiotic stresses such as salinity, drought, and temperature fluctuations negatively impact crops and final yields, posing a serious threat to global food security. Agriculture occupies about 40% of land surfaces<sup><a href=\"#4\">4<\/a><\/sup>. This sector is responsible for 70-90% of deforestation worldwide. The consequences of food shortages or delayed deliveries are felt by everyone in the form of product shortages and\/or price hikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Several factors can impact delayed food transport, including:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margines-blog wp-block-paragraph\">1) Armed conflicts, such as the ongoing war in Ukraine in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margines-blog wp-block-paragraph\">2) Rapid and extreme weather changes, including storms, floods, and hailstorms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margines-blog wp-block-paragraph\">3) Other global issues, like pandemics. Recently, it was the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margines-blog wp-block-paragraph\">4) Shortages of workers or necessary goods for food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"margines-blog wp-block-paragraph\">5) Blockages in supply routes due to political situations or accidents. Currently, about 56% of the world&#8217;s population lives in urban areas. According to World Bank data, in 30 years, 7 out of 10 people will live in cities. This will require an increase in food production of up to 56%. Nonetheless, simply increasing production won&#8217;t be enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A potential global food crisis could lead to international migration on a large scale<sup><a href=\"#6\">6<\/a><\/sup>. Change in the way products are produced is needed now. Currently, one-third of the food produced is lost or wasted, amounting to approximately 1 billion tons annually<sup><a href=\"#7\">7<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"trends_in_modern_precision_agriculture\"><\/span><strong>Trends in Modern (Precision) Agriculture<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issues mentioned above are just a selection of the challenges facing the world of agriculture and the economy. Modern technologies are already being developed and implemented to accelerate production and ensure food security locally and globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"border:3px dashed #3ab54a;background-color:#3ab54a09;\"><p style=\"margin:20px\"><strong>Precision agriculture involves comprehensive crop management using advanced computer tools.<\/strong> These tools allow for monitoring plant development, soil properties, and customization of cultivation methods for different parts of fields to reduce costs and labor. Precision agriculture aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern agriculture is not just about food production; it also addresses key global challenges, such as climate change, limited natural resources, and a growing population.
